Head of the Digital Phenotyping & Data Science (DSM) Module

02. 10. 2026 Information Jobs

The Czech Centre for Phenogenomics (CCP) is a large research infrastructure at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. CCP supports the biomedical research community through integrated expertise and services for model generation, phenotyping, preclinical testing, and data-driven interpretation of complex biological traits, with the aim of improving understanding of gene function and the mechanisms underlying human disease.

CCP is now seeking a scientifically strong and strategically minded leader for the position of Head of the Digital Phenotyping & Data Science (DSM) Module. This role offers the opportunity to shape one of CCP’s most cross-cutting and future-oriented modules, positioned at the interface of biology, data science, artificial intelligence, statistics, and digital research infrastructure.

The DSM Module is CCP’s central analytical unit, transforming diverse experimental outputs into robust, FAIR, and reusable biological knowledge. It brings together computational expertise, advanced statistical and data-analysis methods, artificial intelligence, and the digital infrastructure needed to support modern phenogenomics.

The role

The successful candidate will provide scientific, strategic, and operational leadership for DSM and will guide its development as a module serving the full CCP ecosystem. Unlike a narrowly defined specialist platform, DSM is designed as a transversal infrastructure module that supports multiple CCP domains, including model generation, phenotyping, infectious-disease models, preclinical testing, and human cell-based systems.

The Head of DSM will operate at the level of a Principal Investigator (PI) and will be responsible for the module’s services, interaction with other CCP modules, team coordination, quality standards, reporting, and daily development, in line with CCP’s common strategic and operational framework.

Key responsibilities

  • Define the development roadmap of DSM as CCP’s central unit for digital phenotyping, data integration, and advanced computational analysis
  • Build and lead a strong module combining bioinformatics, biostatistics, AI/machine learning, data engineering, and computational biology expertise
  • Develop and oversee analytical pipelines for heterogeneous datasets generated across CCP, including phenotyping, imaging, omics, preclinical testing, and other multimodal outputs
  • Ensure that CCP data workflows support high-quality, reproducible, FAIR, and reusable results for internal users, collaborators, infrastructure partners, and clients
  • Advance digital phenotyping approaches that connect biological experimentation with computational interpretation and decision-support; coordinate the data-processing environments
  • Work closely with other CCP modules to enable integrated project design, data interpretation, reporting, and preclinical decision-making
  • Contribute to grant preparation, strategic planning, reporting, and the broader development of CCP as a next-generation research infrastructure
  • Represent DSM in interactions with users, collaborators, and national or international networks relevant to data science, phenomics, and biomedical analytics

Candidate profile

This position is well suited to a senior scientist with a strong background in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, AI-driven biomedical analysis, or a related discipline, who is motivated to build a high-impact analytical module embedded within a research infrastructure.

The ideal candidate should have interdisciplinary understanding and the ability to work effectively across biological, technological, and translational domains. Beyond technical expertise, the role requires leadership maturity, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to coordinate people, methods, and infrastructure in a service- and quality-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, data science, systems biology, biomedical informatics, or a closely related field
  • Proven experience in the analysis of complex biological or biomedical datasets, ideally involving multimodal, high-dimensional, or longitudinal data
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: bioinformatics, AI/machine learning, statistical modelling, image analysis, data engineering, or computational phenotyping
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, research group, platform, or analytical unit
  • Communication skills in English, both written and spoken, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment
  • Ability to develop innovative methods, establish robust analytical workflows, and contribute to collaborative and grant-supported research
  • Strong awareness of reproducibility, data stewardship, quality standards, and best practices in computational and data-intensive science
  • Experience in phenomics, preclinical data analysis, FAIR data practices, AI applications in biology, or research-infrastructure environments will be considered an advantage

We offer

  • A senior scientific leadership position within a nationally and internationally recognised research infrastructure
  • A highly collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment at the interface of experimental and computational biomedicine
  • Opportunity to shape a strategically important module with impact across the whole CCP
  • Access to diverse and highly valuable datasets generated through CCP’s integrated research and service activities
  • Support for scientific development, international collaboration, and participation in cutting-edge interdisciplinary projects
  • Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, together with a comprehensive employee benefits package

Contract and start date

This is a long-term position. The initial appointment will be for one year and may be extended based on mutual agreement and successful performance, with the possibility of an indefinite appointment after subsequent extensions, in accordance with Czech labour legislation.

The expected start date is by agreement.

Selection procedure

Eligible applications will be reviewed by a selection committee in accordance with the recruitment procedures of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Candidates selected for the next stage will be invited to an in-person interview.

How to apply

Applicants are invited to submit:

  • A cover letter explaining their interest in leading the DSM Module and outlining how their experience fits the role
  • A structured curriculum vitae
  • A brief statement outlining their vision for the scientific and strategic development of DSM over the next three to five years
  • Contact details for two or three references

Applications should be submitted electronically to Jana Šafránková at jana.safrankova@img.cas.cz by 15 November 2026.

For informal enquiries about the position, applicants may use the same contact email address.
